Rally: Court stops Peter Obi’s supporters from converging at Lekki toll gate

Justice Daniel Osiagor of the Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has ordered the Labour Party and its supporters not to converge at the Lekki toll gate for the rally it plans to hold in the state on October 1st, 2022.   The court also directed the Inspector General of Police and the Lagos State Police Commissioner to ensure compliance with the order.   The judge issued the orders today while ruling on a motion for injunction brought by 10 plaintiffs, who are asking the court to, among others, restrain the LP, its presidential candidate Peter Obi, his vice Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, one Julius Abure, and their loyalists from holding the rally.   The court also held that while the rally cannot stop at the Lekki toll gate, it can pass through the venue to access Falomo Bridge and other v...

With the 2023 general elections approaching, political parties are set to officially commence their campaigns today.   The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has scheduled September 28 as the official start date for political parties' campaigns.   Starting today, 18 Presidential candidates will begin persuading Nigerians to vote for them and their political parties. "Okwute! Obi!" Youths hail Peter Obi as he visits Ile Ife to pay homage to Ooni of Ife (video)

The arrival of Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, and his running mate Datti Baba Ahmed at the palace of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, was met with enthusiastic cheers from the crowd. The youths in the palace enthusiastically chanted "Okwute! Obi!" as Obi made his entrance with the Ooni of Ife. The visit took place approximately 24 hours before the official commencement of political campaigns. According to Sec. 94(1) of the Electoral Act 2022, public campaigns by political parties are scheduled to officially kick off on September 28th, 2022. You can watch the video of Obi's visit here:
