FG and US Agree to Return Abacha’s $308 Million Loot to Nigeria

On Monday, February 3, the United States of America and the Nigerian government signed an Asset Recovery Agreement to repatriate over $308 million of forfeited assets to Nigeria.    The confiscated funds, which were laundered through the US banking system and held in bank accounts in Jersey in the name of Doraville Properties Corporation, a BVI company, and in the name of the son of former Head of State of Nigeria, General Sani Abacha, are set to be returned.   The negotiations for the repatriation, transfer, disposition, and management of the assets commenced in 2018 between the governments of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, United States of America, and the Bailiwick of Jersey.   The expected beneficiaries of this repatriation are the people of Nigeria, as the funds were forfeited...

Imam and 19 others taken captive in Niger state

Reports indicate that some bandits carried out an abduction in communities within Borgu local government area of Niger state, leading to the capture of the Imam of the Emir of Borgu Palace Mosque and 19 others.    The assailants, armed with guns, cutlasses, and knives, initiated an attack which lasted for several hours, resulting in one fatality and three injuries.   The Nation disclosed that the bandits assaulted villagers returning home from the market around 5.30 pm on Saturday, February 1.    Following the incident, Emir of Borgu, Alhaji Mohammed Haliru Dantoro, convened an emergency meeting with all security chiefs in the local government to explore options for securing the release of the captives, in response to the bandits' demand for N20m in exchange for the Imam's freedom....

Abandoned Newborn Found on Roadside in Niger State

A newborn baby girl, abandoned by an unidentified woman, was rescued by a good Samaritan named Fatima Adamu. The infant was found along Kuta Road, opposite the Central Mosque in Minna, the capital of Niger state.   The baby was taken to the Niger State Child Right Protection Agency in Minna on Tuesday, January 28.     According to Adamu, she was alerted by her neighbors after the baby, wrapped in a cloth, was discovered by a passerby.
