NFF halts all NPL games in response to the death of Nasarawa United player Chieme Martins

The recent death of Nasarawa United footballer Chieme Martins has prompted a response from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).   On Sunday, March 8, 2020, Martins collapsed after colliding with a Katsina United player and was subsequently rushed to Dalhatu- Araf Specialist Hospital in Lafia, where he was pronounced dead (read here).   The NFF has extended their condolences to Martins' family and announced that they have assessed the situation in collaboration with the Ministry of Sports and the League Management Committee (LMC).   The NFF has stipulated that no further matches will be played until there is a "full compliment of the medical equipment and personnel as provided in the NFF Club Licensing Regulations."   Read the complete statement from the NFF below.   The Nigeria F...

Gunmen abduct Permanent Secretary in Nasarawa Gunmen abduct Permanent Secretary in Nasarawa

The abduction of Jibrin Giza, the Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Works in Nasarawa State, occurred in the early hours of Sunday February 16th, carried out by unidentified gunmen.   The state's Commissioner of Police, Bola Longe, confirmed the incident, stating that Giza was taken from his residence at Shabu, a suburb of Lafia, around 12:40 a.m., and his current whereabouts remain unknown.   Giza's family members have not received any communication from the abductors.   According to the police chief, the local Divisional Police Officer (DPO) has mobilized officers to pursue the fleeing abductors and the victim.
