Godwin Obaseki, Edo state governor, has vowed to deal with Adams Oshiomhole, national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), if he keeps “disrupting activities” of Edo APC. Oshiomhole, who was instrumental to the emergence of Obaseki, fell out with the governor shortly before he declared his reelection bid. Their misunderstanding reached its height last year when the Edo house of assembly was divided along their loyalists. Lawmakers loyal to the governor had taken oath of office secretly, leaving out their colleagues in the camp of Oshiomhole. 41 killed by Lassa Fever in 19 states – Minister of Health, Osagie Ehanire

The Minister of Health, Osagie Ehanire, revealed that 41 people have died out of the 258 Lassa Fever cases confirmed in 19 states in Nigeria. The disease is endemic due to the country’s ecological profile. He emphasized the need for collective responsibility in curbing the spread of the disease and pointed out that the overall case-fatality rate for 2020 has been about 15 per cent, a decrease from 20 per cent in 2019. The Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Lokoja, Kogi State’s capital on Sunday January 26 confirmed three cases of Lassa fever and one death in its facility. FMC Lokoja’s Head of Clinical Services, Dr Bernard Ododo said 3 patients tested positive while one death was recorded after 5 suspected cases were reported. Nigeria’s NCDC Reports 29 Deaths and 195 Infections from Lassa Fever Outbreak in 11 States

The recent outbreak of Lassa fever in Nigeria has resulted in 29 deaths and 195 confirmed cases, spreading across 11 states. The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) activated a National Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) on January 25 to manage response efforts. NCDC Director-General, Dr. Chikwe Ihekweazu, provided the update, revealing that as of January 24, 11 states had reported the confirmed cases and casualties. 76 people test positive for Lassa fever in Edo

The state of Edo has reported 76 positive cases of Lassa fever out of 175 suspected cases that were tested. The figure was announced by the Edo State commissioner of health, Dr. Patrick Okundia during a Lassa fever committee meeting. The meeting was chaired by the State's Deputy Governor, Mr. Philip Shaibu, along with a representative from the World Health Organization. Dr. Okundia stated that 76 suspected cases of Lassa fever were confirmed, and those individuals are currently receiving treatment at the Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital.
