Massive leatherback sea turtle caught in Bayelsa state (photos)

An enormous leatherback sea turtle was captured by fishermen in Foropa Community, Bayelsa State, surprising everyone.   What happened to the animal after its capture on Friday, January 17 is unknown. There are concerns that it might end up being killed and consumed by the members of the community.     In a previous incident in February 2019, a dolphin was also captured in the same community.     Below are additional photos of the leatherback sea turtle caught in Foropa.

Sources told Vanguard that the major reason the governors could not meet is the raging feud between the Chairman, South-South Governors Forum and Bayelsa State governor, Seriake Dickson and his Rivers State counterpart, Governor Nyesom Wike. It has been difficult for other South-South governors to take sides because of the personalities involved. Governor Wike refused the mediation of the national leadership of his party.

Pirates allegedly kill four Nigerian navy personnel in Ondo community

A tragic incident unfolded in Gagira, a suburb of Awoye coastal community in Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State over the weekend as four Nigerian navy personnel were reportedly killed by sea pirates. The naval ratings met their demise during an exchange of gunfire with the pirates, which occurred after the abduction of three foreigners. Following the incident, naval personnel have been dispatched to the community to search for the sea pirates and the military rifles of the deceased ratings. After enduring three weeks in captivity, the 6-year-old son of Bayelsa State's Commissioner for Water Resources, Nengi Talbot Tubonah, has been successfully rescued.   The boy was taken on December 22 by a group of four gunmen who invaded the commissioner’s residence at the New Commissioners’ Quarters in Yenagoa. Upon entering Talbot's home at the quarters located in Opolo, the gunmen demanded money from the commissioner. Reports from Bayelsa State indicate that a Nigerian police officer, stationed at a bank in Ekeki Area, Yenagoa, allegedly shot and killed a member of the Nigeria Youth Service Corps (NYSC) on Monday evening.   During an altercation, the police officer also shot a driver from Peace Mass transit, causing severe injuries.   These events unfolded on January 6, 2020. The officer, who was assigned to the commercial bank in Yenagoa, engaged in a dispute with a commercial bus driver over parking.
