103 individuals succumb to Lassa fever as it spreads across 16 states

The recent outbreak of Lassa fever in Nigeria has resulted in the deaths of 103 individuals, as disclosed by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Wednesday, February 19. The outbreak was reported to have commenced on December 30, 2019. The unfortunate victims were inhabitants of Ondo, Edo, Ebonyi, Kano, Kogi, Kaduna, Taraba, Plateau, Bauchi, Enugu, Abia, Benue, Borno, Gombe, Sokoto, and Katsina. A total of 586 cases have been confirmed countrywide, with Edo bearing the highest burden of confirmed cases at 35%, followed by Ondo at 32% and Ebonyi at 6%.
