Suspension of Immigration Personnel by Immigration Service in Light of Alleged Drug Charges

Following accusations of involvement in multiple drug trafficking offenses, one of the officers of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) stationed at Murtala Muhammad International Airport, Akomolafe Gbenga Michael, has been suspended.

Akomolafe is currently facing charges at the Federal High Court in Lagos.

An official statement released by Deputy Comptroller of Immigration and the Public Relations Officer, Kenneth Udo, confirmed that Akomolafe is undergoing internal investigations and has been placed on suspension as a result of the allegations brought against him.

Udo mentioned that the NIS will await the court’s verdict on the case that commenced in May before issuing any further statements.

“The Service acknowledges the importance of the judicial process in assessing the extent of his involvement,” stated Udo.

“As a precaution against prejudicing the legal proceedings, the Nigeria Immigration Service will reserve further comments until a decision is reached by the court,” he added.

“Our commitment to providing outstanding service, upholding discipline, and enforcing a no-tolerance policy towards criminal activities remains steadfast. Any officer found acting in contradiction to these principles will face appropriate sanctions,” Udo emphasized.
