Supreme Court affirms Akwa Ibom gov’s election

The election of Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, was affirmed by the Supreme Court on Thursday. The court dismissed three separate appeals by the All Progressives Congress, Young Progressives Congress, and New Nigerian Peoples Party, as well as their candidates. The appeals were withdrawn by the parties’ counsel. These parties had alleged certificate forgery and other issues and sought to remove the governor from office. The tribunal and Court of Appeal in Lagos had previously upheld Eno’s victory in the governorship election that took place on March 18, 2023. The appellate court also rejected three separate appeals against the governor’s election.
