Support for NLC and TUC Strike: Shehu Sani Endorses Nationwide Protest

Former Kaduna Central Senator Shehu Sani expressed his support for the strike initiated by the organised labour, citing the recent assault on Joe Ajaero, President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, as the justification for the nationwide protest.

The NLC and the Trade Union of Nigeria, TUC, called for the strike in response to the violent incident that took place in Owerri, the Imo State capital, where Ajaero was attacked by suspected political thugs.

In his statement, Sani backed the decision of the organised labour, emphasizing that the strike would serve as a strong message to those responsible for the assault on Ajaero.

He stressed the significance of the strike action in conveying a resolute message to those accountable for the attack.

Highlighting the necessity for a robust response, Sani stated, “No responsible trade union will stand idly by while its leaders are subjected to brutality. The strike action will communicate a powerful message to those inclined to engage in such actions. The use of political thugs to disrupt protests and mistreat demonstrators is intolerable; the organizers of the Abuja EndSARS protest can attest to the attack they faced at the CBN Headquarters.”
