Support for Kim Jong Un’s Threats to Create ‘New Strategic Weapon’ Grows at Mass Rally in North Korea amid Stalled Nuclear Talks with US (photos)

North Korea held a mass rally in Pyongyang on Sunday to express solidarity with Kim Jong Un, following his recent threat to develop a ‘new strategic weapon’ in response to the stalled nuclear talks with the US.

The rally was attended by senior North Korean officials. While the exact purpose of the rally remains unclear, local reports suggest that it was a political gathering to show support for Kim Jong Un’s warning of unspecified ‘shocking’ action after the impasse in nuclear negotiations with the United States.

Kim also stated that his country would soon unveil a new ‘strategic weapon’ as a nuclear deterrent against what he termed ‘gangster-like’ US pressure.

Last week, Kim declared that North Korea was no longer bound by the self-imposed suspension on the testing of nuclear weapons and intercontinental ballistic missiles, which was agreed upon following his meeting with Trump last year.

During the rally on Sunday, telephone networks were disabled, and there was a significant police presence throughout Pyongyang.
