Stormzy, the British rapper, and his company have committed £10 million over the next decade to support organizations working toward racial equality and social justice in the UK.

Engaging in a recent Black Lives Matter rally in London, the 26-year-old grime rapper released a statement through his #Merky company on Thursday.

According to the statement, “The uncomfortable truth that our country continuously fails to recognize and admit is that black people in the UK have been at a constant disadvantage in every aspect of life simply due to the color of our skin.”

Rejecting the notion that his success negates the existence of racism in Britain, Stormzy asserted, “I am not the UK’s shining example of what supposedly happens when a black person works hard.”

He continued by highlighting the challenge faced by black people in the UK due to a system stacked against them, and emphasized, “Black people have been playing on an uneven field for far too long, and this pledge is a continuation in the fight to finally try and even it.”

Stormzy’s donation aims to support organizations, charities, and movements involved in addressing racial inequality, justice reform, and black empowerment in the UK.

The announcement follows the Black Lives Matter protests in the US and the UK following the death of George Floyd.
