Stop playing politics with Coronavirus directives – Lai Mohammed tells Governors

The call to stop playing politics with Coronavirus directives was made by the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, who urged Governors in Nigeria to refrain from such actions. His plea was made during an appearance on the Nigeria Television Authority (NTA) program “Good Morning Nigeria” on Friday, April 10.

Addressing the arrest and prosecution of Caverton pilots by Governor Nyesom Wike, the Minister criticized the conflicting directives between some states and the federal government aimed at curbing the spread of the virus, deeming them unnecessary and uncalled for. He stressed the need for Governors to desist from politicizing the fight against Coronavirus, emphasizing the federal government’s responsibility to all Nigerians regardless of their state of residence.

Regarding the relaxation of lockdown directives for Jumat and Easter festivities by some Governors, Mohammed highlighted the absence of a cure or vaccine for the disease, emphasizing the essential role of Non Medicinal Intervention in prevention and management. He underscored the necessity for the populace to heed the federal government’s guidance, and the significance of adhering to hygiene instructions and social distancing to combat the virus effectively.
