Statement from Federal Government on Nigerian-British Boy’s Murder

Expressing deep regret, the Federal Government has characterized the tragic death of 14-year-old Daniel Anjorin, who lost his life in a sword attack in London, United Kingdom, on Tuesday, as profoundly saddening and horrific.

Condolences were shared by the Chairperson of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, in a message to the family on Thursday.

Within a statement released by NiDCOM spokesperson Abdur-Rahman Balogun, Dabiri-Erewa extended sympathies to the family of the deceased and the Nigerian communities in the UK, while beseeching God to grant young Daniel peace after his untimely passing on Tuesday.

There was hope expressed that decisive measures would be taken to ensure the perpetrator, already in police custody, faces suitable consequences, as outlined in the statement.

Anjorin, a student at Bancroft’s private school in Woodford Green, attended the same educational institution as Grace O’Malley-Kumar, a victim of a knife attack in Nottingham.

The suspect in Anjorin’s tragic demise, Marcus Aurelio Arduini Monzo, a Spanish-Brazilian individual living in Newham, East London, is facing various charges such as attempted murder, grievous bodily harm, aggravated burglary, and possession of a bladed article, as revealed by the authorities on Wednesday.

The occurrence on Tuesday resulted in injuries to four individuals, including two Metropolitan Police officers.

Monzo, aged 36, made an appearance at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Thursday and was detained in custody.

His custody is anticipated to continue until his hearing at the Old Bailey next Tuesday, unless a session is arranged for Friday.
