Statement from Federal Government in Response to Critics

In light of recent calls for a regime change, the Federal Government has advised individuals to wait until the upcoming presidential election in 2027.

During a press briefing after the inaugural Council of State meeting under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu, Minister of Solid Minerals, Dele Alake, emphasized the importance of patiently awaiting the democratic process.

Alake acknowledged the recent hunger protest as a movement aiming to forcibly change the government, which was met with opposition. The council commended Nigerians for resisting unconstitutional attempts at government change.

He highlighted discussions at the Council of State regarding national security, particularly focusing on recent events and the council’s stance on maintaining democratic processes.

Alake reiterated the significance of electoral processes in implementing change, emphasizing that any change of government should occur through legitimate voting methods and not through force or unconstitutional actions.

Additionally, Alake detailed presentations by ministers highlighting economic progress in various sectors and the government’s focus on economic diversification.

Governor Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq, Chairman of the Governor’s Forum and Governor of Kwara State, expressed confidence in President Bola Tinubu following the Council of State meeting.

He revealed that state governors held an executive session with the President post-meeting, where further confidence was expressed in the president and discussions were held on national matters.
