Statement by Peter Obi on the Passing of Olubadan in Nigeria

Mourning the recent passing of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Lekan Balogun, Alli Okunmade II, Mr. Peter Obi, the presidential candidate for the Labour Party in the upcoming 2023 elections, expressed his heartfelt condolences.

Reflecting on Balogun’s death, Obi emphasized the significant void it has left not only in Ibadanland but across the entire nation of Nigeria.

The late Olubadan was laid to rest in accordance with Muslim traditions following his passing a few days ago.

In a message shared on X platform, Obi remarked, “The news of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Lekan Balogun, Alli Okunmade II’s demise saddens me deeply.

“He was a patriotic Nigerian who dedicated himself to the advancement of a unified and prosperous nation for all citizens.

“Having served as a legislator, he contributed significantly to the progress of our country. His departure has not only left a sorrowful gap in Ibadanland but also in the entire nation at large.

“I extend my heartfelt condolences to the Balogun family, the government, the people of Ibadan land, and Oyo State, as we collectively mourn this irreplaceable loss. May God grant them and all those grieving the strength to bear this profound sorrow.”
