Following the tragic events in Agojeju-Odo Community of Omala Local Government Area, Hon. Umar Yahaya, the representative of Omala State Constituency in the Kogi State House of Assembly, has expressed his strong disapproval of the violence that led to the loss of lives among his constituents.
Yahaya, in a released statement, characterized the attack and subsequent fatalities as an act of extreme inhumanity, emphasizing the cruelty exhibited towards fellow human beings.
Expressing his disappointment, he noted that despite his continuous efforts and investments in promoting peaceful coexistence, malevolent individuals have resorted to attacking defenseless and innocent civilians in the community.
“The recent events in Agojeju-Odo Community, Omala Local Government Area, Kogi State, are deeply saddening and unacceptable. Despite prior peacebuilding initiatives, such incidents continue to occur.
“I unequivocally condemn this appalling assault on the community and extend my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families who have unjustly lost their loved ones in this unwarranted and tragic incident.
“It is important to emphasize that significant efforts have been made to prevent a recurrence of such incidents in Omala LGA. The perpetrators of this crime will face the consequences of their actions,” Yahaya stated.
He highlighted his personal engagements with stakeholders and the state government, resulting in recommendations and actionable plans for fostering lasting peace in the region.
“Meetings have been held with relevant authorities and community representatives to ensure that peace is restored in Omala LGA. I am resolute in my commitment to achieving sustained peace and security for the constituents,” he added.
Yahaya urged the federal and state governments to intensify their efforts in apprehending the culprits and ensuring that justice is served, emphasizing the importance of preventing any future occurrences of violence in Omala LGA.
“I strongly condemn this heinous act against my people and call for swift justice to be served. There is no justification for such brutality, and it must not be tolerated. Let us work together to end the senseless violence,” he concluded.
