A private memorial service is underway in Minneapolis to honor George Floyd, the unarmed black man whose death occurred after a white police officer held him down with a knee on his neck for nearly nine minutes.
This service is being held at the Frank J. Lindquist Sanctuary at North Central University, situated about 3 miles north of the location where George was arrested on Memorial Day.
Notable attendees include Gov. Tim Walz, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar, civil rights leaders Martin Luther King III, and Rev. Jesse Jackson, amongst others.
Among the stars present at the memorial service are T.I., Tiny, Ludacris, Tyrese Gibson, Kevin Hart, Tiffany Haddish, Will Packer, Master P, and Marsai Martin.
Another memorial service is set for Saturday in Raeford, N.C., where Floyd was born. On Tuesday, a funeral will be held in Houston, where he lived for much of his life before moving to Minneapolis.
All four Minneapolis officers (Derek Chauvin Thomas Lane, J. Kueng, and Tou Thao) involved in George Floyd’s death have been charged.
