St. Lucia’s Julian Alfred Secures Olympics Gold in Women’s 100m Dash

The unexpected victory of Saint Lucia’s Julian Alfred over the favored Sha’Carri Richardson in the Women’s 100m final at the Olympics saw her clinch the gold medal, making history by securing her country’s first-ever medal at the Games.

Prior to this race, Alfred had not stood on the podium at any major outdoor championship, but her exceptional performance in the final saw her clocking in at 10.72 seconds to claim victory. Richardson from the USA settled for silver with a time of 10.87 seconds, while Melissa Jefferson, also from the USA, took home the bronze with a time of 10.92 seconds.
