SSANU, NASU, NAATS to conclude warning strike this Sunday

By the end of Sunday, the ongoing seven-day and three-day warning strikes led by the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) of Educational Associated Institutions, and the National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT) will come to a close.

In a Zoom press briefing held on Sunday, Mr. Mohammed Ibrahim, the National President of JAC of SSANU and NASU, announced that all unions will resume regular duties starting Monday.

Expressing disappointment, Ibrahim noted that the government had not yet addressed the unions’ grievances.

He mentioned that the non-teaching staff have not been paid by the FG, and a meeting with the National Executive Council will determine the next steps.

According to Ibrahim’s statement, “The seven-day warning strike is scheduled to end at midnight on Sunday, March 24, 2024, with work resuming normally on Monday, March 25, 2024.”

For approximately a month, JAC of SSANU and NASU have been demanding fair treatment after being excluded from salary payments, which the government had initiated for the Academic Staff Union of Universities back in February.

The withholding of their salaries occurred when the former President, Muhammadu Buhari’s administration implemented a ‘No Work, No Pay policy’ against ASUU, SSANU, NAATS for their strikes that lasted eight months, four months, and five-and-a-half months respectively in 2022.

Additionally, NAATS had also joined the protest and started a three-day warning strike on Wednesday.
