Spanish Village Locked Down after 12-Year-Old Tests Positive for Coronavirus

After a 12-year-old girl tested positive for Coronavirus, the entire population of a Spanish village with approximately 200 residents has been quarantined.

The decision was explained by Fernando Resino Carrillo, the mayor of Sotillo de las Palomas, citing the majority of residents falling into the high-risk age category and concerns about potential virus spread.

A quarantine order has been issued for a minimum of ten days, following the girl’s Covid-19 contraction. The source of her infection was not disclosed, but tests are underway for children she had contact with.

The Health Ministry of Castilla-La Mancha has initiated tracing efforts for individuals who may have interacted with the girl’s family in recent days.

Reportedly, the girl is isolating at home and has not required hospitalization, while her household members have not exhibited symptoms but are awaiting test results.

Spain has reported a total of 278,782 Coronavirus cases and 28,434 deaths.
