Spain’s Prime Minister’s Wife Tests Positive for Coronavirus

Begoña Gómez, the wife of Spain’s prime minister Pedro Sanchez, has been confirmed to have tested positive for the novel coronavirus.

This was announced in a statement released by the Spanish Government.

The statement conveyed the test results from the prime minister’s residence, Moncloa, indicating that his wife, Doña Begoña Gómez, had tested positive. It also reassured that both Mrs. Gómez and the president are in good health and are following the preventive measures recommended by health authorities.

Earlier this week, two ministers of Sánchez’s Cabinet, the minister of equality and the minister of regional affairs, had also tested positive. However, the government confirmed that they are both in good health.

This development follows the prime minister’s declaration of a state of emergency in response to the coronavirus epidemic, prompted by the announcement of 1,063 new cases and 53 new deaths in Spain in a single day.

As per Worldometer, Spain currently has 6,391 confirmed cases and 196 deaths, making it the worst-hit country in Europe.
