The claim by the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) suggests that South West governors are seeking to convert the newly established regional security outfit, Amotekun, into a “Christian militia.” According to MURIC, the ongoing recruitment for the security outfit requires applicants to only submit birth certificates registered in churches. MURIC’s director, Ishaq Akintola, expressed concerns over this issue and emphasized the importance of transparency and inclusivity in the establishment of Amotekun. Akintola also raised questions about the advertisement for applicants to bring birth certificates from churches and urged the organizers of Amotekun to provide an explanation. He stressed the need for Muslims to be actively involved in the recruitment process and emphasized the importance of avoiding any form of discrimination or targeting of specific groups by Amotekun operatives.
