South Africa now has 116 confirmed cases of coronavirus

South Africa has now confirmed 116 cases of the coronavirus, with 31 new cases reported late Tuesday. This marked a significant spike from the 85 cases reported earlier on the same day. Health Minister Zweli Mkhize confirmed the increase, with 14 of the cases attributed to local transmissions. Mkhize also assured that background information on how the patients were infected has been collected, but due to patient confidentiality, full details will not be disclosed. The minister also emphasized the ethical obligation to immediately alert patients once results become available. Among the new cases is a 2-year-old boy from the Western Cape, the youngest confirmed case. There are also detailed travel histories provided for several other confirmed cases in the country. This includes cases in KwaZulu-Natal and the Western Cape. Multiple images depicting the impact of the coronavirus in South Africa are also included.
