An armed robber was killed by soldiers from the Nkwagu Military Cantonment on the Akpoha/Abaomege axis of the Afikpo/Abakaliki highway in the Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi State. In addition, three individuals with connections to hoodlums who have been causing havoc and intimidating motorists in the area were apprehended.
According to PUNCH Metro, the arrested suspects were part of a notorious gang known for creating chaos and instilling fear in the region. The Afikpo/Abakaliki highway in Ebonyi serves as a crucial route for travelers coming to Abakaliki, the capital of Ebonyi State, from Imo and Abia States.
Reports indicate that the suspects were confronted by the soldiers on Monday morning, resulting in one fatality and the arrest of three others.
A viral video captured travelers and locals commending the bravery of the soldiers as they escorted the apprehended suspects away, while one of them was visibly injured.
The state Police spokesman, DSP Joshua Ukandu, mentioned that the information regarding the incident was not yet conclusive from his office and he was awaiting further details from the Divisional Police Officer in the Abaomege Division.
He stated, “I’ve not been able to get anything conclusive, the DPO for Abaomege confirmed getting information on that, but doesn’t have details. So, I don’t have any details to give.”
