Sokoto Sallah Day Attack Leaves Six Dead and Many Abducted

Reports indicate that a community in Sokoto State was attacked in the early hours of Sunday, resulting in the death of at least six individuals and the abduction of over 100 residents by suspected gunmen.

Spokesman Ahmed Rufai from the Sokoto police confirmed the fatalities and abductions in Tudun Doki, Gwadabawa Local Government Area. He mentioned that the attack details were still unclear, but notably, six people were confirmed dead. The Divisional Police Officer in Gwadabawa mobilized police forces to the area to address the situation and restore order.

A search team recovered six bodies, and efforts are ongoing to locate other missing individuals, Rufai stated.

Residents reported that around 7 assailants armed with sophisticated weapons attacked the community around 1:30 am, indiscriminately shooting and abducting numerous inhabitants.

Gwadabawa, previously a peaceful local government in Sokoto State, was disrupted by the assailants’ early morning assault.

Meanwhile, Operation Whirl Punch forces in Kaduna State eliminated three bandits in the Gonna Rogo-Eka region of Kajuru Local Government Area. Samuel Aruwan, the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, disclosed this in a statement.

Troops had previously taken down 36 bandits, including notorious leader Buhari Alhaji Halidu, causing rejoicing among Kaduna-Katsina border community residents.

In the recent operation, troops neutralized three bandits and seized two AK-47 rifles, four magazines, and ammunition following a fierce confrontation.

Governor Uba Sani appreciated the security forces and lauded the troops’ efforts under Maj. Gen. M.L.D Saraso, commanding officer of the 1 Division, Nigerian Army, in ensuring a secure Eid celebration.

“The troops will continue special fighting patrols in the vicinity and other critical areas,” the statement concluded.
