Social Welfare Programme Launched by Kaduna Lawmaker Empowering 400 Constituents with N100m

A Social Welfare Intervention Programme, initiated by the Kaduna-South Senator, Sunday Katung, has seen the disbursement of N100 million to 400 constituents spread across the 87 Wards. The aim of the programme is to enhance better livelihoods within the community.

Represented by Hon. Yohanna Allahmagani during the launch in Kafanchan, the headquarters of Jema’a Local Government Area of Kaduna State, Senator Katung emphasized that the initiative is a long-term effort to alleviate financial stress and promote economic stability within the communities.

In a statement delivered on his behalf, Katung mentioned, “Today marks the beginning for 400 carefully selected beneficiaries from the 87 political wards within our senatorial district,” adding, “The pilot scheme will grant N100,000 to 20 beneficiaries from each local government area and N50,000 to 30 beneficiaries, aiming for a wider impact and providing crucial support where needed the most.”

The main focus of this gesture is to uplift women and youth entrepreneurs, boost economic growth, and enhance the livelihoods of the constituents.

Acknowledging the current economic challenges faced by many Nigerians, particularly in Kaduna South Senatorial District, Senator Katung stressed the need for immediate and compassionate action. He stated, “This programme is our response to the urgent need for providing relief and sustained support to our most vulnerable constituents.”

The initiative is viewed as a collective effort to uplift the underprivileged and create an environment where every citizen can thrive. The funds allocated are considered investments in the potential and future of the people, aiming to bring immediate relief and pave the way for long-term self-sufficiency.

Beneficiaries were encouraged to use the funds wisely, with the assurance that this initiative is a stepping stone towards greater achievements and improved quality of life.

The chairman of the occasion, Hon. Gideon Gwani, a former minority Whip of the House of Representatives, praised the initiative and called for support and prayers for Senator Katung’s success in all aspects of life.

Gwani highlighted the uniqueness of the programme by stating, “Past Senators have not undertaken initiatives like this,” and emphasized the challenge it presents to aspiring political office holders.

He warned against assuming that every Senator possesses such financial resources, drawing from his experience in the National Assembly. Some beneficiaries expressed gratitude towards the senator and pledged to utilize the funds judiciously.
