Six suspected Yahoo boys arrested for kidnapping Bauchi varsity student over $3800 proceeds of fraud

Operatives of the Bauchi State Police Command have arrested six suspected internet fraudsters for kidnapping a 400-level student of the Bauchi State University, Gadau (BASUG), Ojo Tobi David.

The spokesperson of the command, SP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, disclosed the arrest in a statement on June 13, 2023. According to him, the suspects kidnapped the student due to a disagreement over the division of $3800 obtained through fraudulent means.

Damilola James, one of the suspects, suffered a fatal fall while attempting to escape and was pronounced dead by a medical doctor after being taken to the hospital for treatment.

“The suspects kidnapped one Ojo Tobi David, a 23-year-old 400 Level student of SLT Bauchi State University, Gadau (BASUG), from Federal Low Cost of Azare town, Bauchi State. After kidnapping the victim, the suspects seized a Toyota Camry 2010 with Reg No.KYW-925-SB from Amaechi Ikechukwu and fled with their victim towards Misau Road Azare,” the statement read.

Soldiers at Azare/Misau military checkpoint swiftly responded to a distress call, intercepted the stolen vehicle, and apprehended the suspects, leading to the safe rescue of the victim.

The arrested suspects were identified as: Hassan Mohammed, Abdul Karim Gobir, Ibrahim Yusuf, Peter Femi, and Samuel Abimbola. Additionally, various items including mobile phones, ATM cards, vehicle tickets, bags, a Toyota Camry, and assorted charms were found in their possession.

“One of the suspects, Damilola James, fell while trying to escape. He was taken to Federal Medical Center (FMC) Azare for immediate medical attention but was certified dead by a medical doctor,” the statement continued.

The case has been referred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) Bauchi for further investigation.
