Singer Ric Hassani criticizes the quality of hit songs in Nigeria

Expressing his views on the Afrobeats genre, singer Ric Hassani has raised concerns about the decline in the quality of music over the years.

He pointed out that while past hit songs were known for their quality, the current crop of hit songs is lacking in musical merit.

Appearing on the Channels TV show, Rubbin’ Minds with Ebuka, Hassani highlighted his observations.

He remarked, “Afrobeats represents Nigerian music. The dominance of our artists in the top 10 charts may be contributing to a decline in music quality as more individuals seek to enter the industry. This downward trend in quality is evident.

“There used to be a time when hit songs were crafted with sincerity, but now it seems like anyone can create music. The majority of today’s hit songs in Nigeria fall short in terms of quality. This was not the case years ago. It appears that our longstanding position as leaders in the music scene has led to a situation where everyone feels entitled to release music, regardless of the actual value it offers.”
