Shocking incident at Abuja hotel as armed robbers take DJ’s life

In a distressing event, a gang of armed robbers raided a hotel situated in the Gwarinpa area of the Federal Capital Territory on a Saturday.

The heinous attack led to the tragic death of a disc jockey who fell victim to a fatal gunshot during the robbery.

The DJ sadly succumbed to his injuries at the Federal Medical Centre in Jabi, Abuja, where he was promptly taken for medical attention.

Reports also confirmed that some guests had to endure the traumatic experience of being robbed of their possessions and personal effects.

An eyewitness and resident of the area known as Sani recounted the alarming incident, emphasizing the increasing frequency of armed robbery cases, which have instilled fear in the neighborhood.

Sani stated, ” During the early hours of Saturday, armed robbers stormed the Volcano Hotel in Gwarinpa. They perpetrated acts of robbery against some hotel guests, depriving them of their valuables and personal items. The guests fell victim to theft, losing their money and phones.

“Tragically, a DJ was fatally shot and later passed away at the hospital in Jabi. The surge in armed robbery incidents in Gwarinpa has left residents deeply unsettled, with this recent event amplifying fears among the community.”

On X.com, a social media user under the handle Kidbold expressed, “Gunmen attacked a club in Gwarimpa, Abuja in the early hours of this morning, leading to the unfortunate death of a DJ I knew.
“Notably, a police station is located in close proximity to the venue.”

Efforts to contact the hotel’s management proved futile as calls placed to the listed phone number on its official website remained unanswered.

In a statement confirming the incident, the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh, disclosed the identity of the deceased DJ as Bashir Dauda.

Adeh recounted how the police promptly responded to a distress call, arriving at the scene to find Dauda lying wounded on the ground.

She elaborated on the swift actions taken by the police to rush the victim to the hospital, where unfortunately he was pronounced deceased.

She remarked, “On 15/06/2024 at about 05:07 am, the FCT Police Command received a distress call alerting to a robbery incident at Volcano Peak Court Hotel, 4th Avenue approximately at 03:35 am.

“Operatives from the Gwarimpa Police Division swiftly responded, securing the area to discover the injured Bashir Dauda due to a gunshot inflicted by the attackers.

“Promptly, the victim was transported to the Federal Medical Centre, Jabi, where medical professionals confirmed his unfortunate demise. The family requested the release of the deceased for an Islamic burial according to their beliefs.”

Adeh conveyed that investigations into the incident were underway.

Additionally, she added, “The investigation continues to identify and apprehend those responsible, with updates to be shared in due course.

“Residents are urged by the FCT Police Command to remain vigilant of their environment, reporting any suspicious activities promptly so law enforcement can respond swiftly.”
