Shekarau denies receiving kickbacks during his tenure as Kano governor

In a press conference held in Abuja, Ibrahim Shekarau, the former governor of Kano State, stated that he maintained the integrity of local government allocations throughout his eight-year tenure.

Attending the press conference ahead of the 70th anniversary of the Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria (MSSN) on October 12, 2024, Shekarau expressed the significant influence the organization had on his life, both spiritually and otherwise.

Dismissing allegations, Shekarau affirmed that he never accepted kickbacks from contractors during his two terms as governor.

Reflecting on his entry into politics, he shared, “When I contested the election, I had less than N100,000 in my account, and my entry into politics was not by choice but by persuasion.”

Asserting his commitment to transparency, Shekarau challenged anyone to come forward if they could attest to him engaging in any form of corrupt practices with contractors, commissioners, or local government chairmen during his governorship.

Commenting on a previous incident involving the current National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdulahi Ganduje, Shekarau distanced himself from any similar misconduct, emphasizing his principled approach to governance.

Shekarau, who also serves as the chairman of the MSSN organizing committee, highlighted the organization’s upcoming initiatives focused on promoting unity among members and encouraging their engagement in politics and governance.
