Shehu Sani advises Tinubu government against hosting French, US soldiers in Nigeria

In a cautionary message to President Bola Tinubu, former Senator of Kaduna Central, Shehu Sani, advised against accommodating French and United States soldiers in Nigeria.

Sani emphasized the importance of adequately funding Nigeria’s military to effectively address the country’s security issues.

Expressing his stance on the matter, Sani stated, “The relocation of French forces and American troops expelled from Niger Republic should not be permitted on Nigerian soil.”

He further urged President Tinubu to prioritize equipping and financially supporting the Nigerian Military and other security agencies to tackle the existing security challenges. This directive, he stressed, should be straightforward and unambiguous.

Simultaneously, some leaders from the Northern region cautioned the Nigerian government against permitting the US and French governments to shift their military bases from the Sahel to Nigeria.

Highlighting the potential risks associated with such a relocation, they reiterated their concerns and advised against this move, suggesting it could pose a threat to Nigeria’s security.

These leaders raised alarms about alleged lobbying efforts by the US and French governments to garner support from Nigeria and neighboring countries in the region to enter into new defense agreements that would facilitate the redeployment of their previously expelled troops.
