The nominees’ list for the Best of Nollywood Awards 2023 is out, and the highly praised movie series ‘Shanty Town,’ as well as ‘Herdsmen’ and ‘Underbelly,’ have secured top spots.
‘Shanty Town,’ a gripping crime thriller created by Xavier Ighorodje and Chichi Nworah and produced by Chinenye Nworah, has received 15 nominations out of 29 categories. The series, available on Netflix, boasts a stellar cast including Chidi Mokeme, Ini Edo, Richard Mofe-Damijo, Nse Ikpe-Etim, Sola Sobowale, Nancy Isime, Shaffy Bello, and Ali Nuhu. Some of its nominations include Best Social Message, Special Effect, Sound, Movie of the Year, and more.
Following closely is ‘Herdsmen,’ which has secured 11 nominations. The movie, produced by Chloe Coko and directed by Toka Mcbaror, delves into the herdsmen and farmer crisis in Nigeria, blending fiction with real-life experiences. Its nominations include Best Social Message, Special Effect, Production Design, and Movie of the Year.
Similarly, ‘Underbelly’ has earned 11 nominations. Produced by Tunde Aina, the movie explores themes of love, betrayal, and survival in a harsh environment. Its nominations include Special Effect, Soundtrack, Best Use of Costume, Production Design, and Movie of the Year.
The BON Awards, in its 14th edition, is set to take place on December 22, 2023, with the host state yet to be announced.
