Shaibu: PDP’s Ighodalo Supports Godfatherism, Unfit for Governorship

In Edo State, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Asue Ighodalo, has been criticized by former Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, who stated that Ighodalo, being the godson of Governor Godwin Obaseki, is not a viable candidate for governor.

Shaibu emphasized his support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Monday Okpebholo, asserting that a godson does not have the capability to win a governorship election.

During a media briefing at St. Paul Catholic Church, Airport Road, Benin, Shaibu stressed the need to eliminate godfatherism in Edo State and expressed his preference for candidates who are ‘homeboys.’

Shaibu stated, “I stand with a ‘homeboy.’ I entered the race to lead Edo State because I believe governance should be entrusted to a ‘homeboy,’ someone who comprehends our challenges and the needs of the people.

“We have two ‘homeboys’ in the major political parties: one in the Labour Party (LP) and the other in the APC. I have chosen to align with the ‘homeboy’ from the APC.”

Regarding Ighodalo, Shaibu remarked, “Asue Ighodalo, touted by the PDP, is an outsider, and we have made a pact to end the era of ‘godfatherism’ in Edo.

“The individual the PDP is promoting is Governor Godwin Obaseki’s godson. It is improbable for a godson to clinch the position of Edo State Governorship.”

The residents of Edo State will cast their votes for the next governor on September 21.
