Shaibu mourns ex-Golden Eaglets coach Brodericks-Imasuen

Edo State Deputy Governor, Comrade Philip Shaibu, has expressed his condolences following the passing of veteran footballer and coach Sebastian Brodericks-Imasuen. Brodericks-Imasuen, Nigeria’s first World Cup-winning coach, led the Golden Eaglets to victory in the inaugural Kodak-FIFA U-17 Championship in 1985, hosted by China.

The late coach passed away at the age of 85 after battling stroke at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital. Shaibu lamented the loss, acknowledging Brodericks-Imasuen’s significant contributions to Nigerian football and his global impact.

Shaibu honored the legacy of the Edo-born football icon and extended his sympathies to the Nigerian football community, particularly the family, friends, and associates of the deceased. Brodericks-Imasuen, who also represented Nigeria at the Mexico Olympic Games in 1968, will be remembered for his pivotal role in securing Nigeria’s victory in the maiden FIFA U-17 World Cup in 1985.
