Renowned Afrobeat artist, Seun Kuti, proudly declares that among Nigerian musicians, he is the sole individual who discourages fans from spraying him with currency notes while he performs.
He asserts that many artists, particularly those in the fuji music genre, sing in praise of their audience during shows with the expectation of being showered with cash.
Kuti’s statements come in light of the recent actions taken by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) against individuals engaging in the abuse of the Naira currency.
In a video shared on his Instagram account, he expressed, “I am not fond of being sprayed with money. Even my late father, the iconic Fela Kuti, did not refuse money being thrown at him, but he specified the denominations he preferred.”
He further added, “There isn’t an artist whom King Sunny Ade hasn’t performed for in hopes of being sprayed. Everybody does it. KWAM 1… Politicians have normalized this behavior of spraying money.”
