Senator Ndume and Others Criticize Akpabio for Hasty Passage of Bills

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has been criticized by Senator Ali Ndume and others for passing bills without proper notification to members.

In a video from Thursday’s sitting, Senator Ali Ndume (APC), representing Borno south district, expressed his dismay at the speed at which Akpabio passes bills without reading them or allowing contributions from members.

“You are passing bills without prior notification, including money bills. You pass bills within two hours without anyone’s contribution. This is not good for Nigeria,” Ndume said.

Senator Ogoshi Onawo, of the PDP from Nasarawa State, also criticized the hasty passage of sensitive bills.

“Sir, you are on the seat today, and history will judge you that things like this are not good for this country,” Onawo said.

Akpabio defended himself by saying, “If the bills we are passing are good for the country, history will judge me right. I don’t think we would come here to pass a bill that’s not good for the interest of Nigerians.

“So, your point of order is noted,” he concluded.

This criticism comes three weeks after the Senate denied rumors of an impeachment process against Akpabio.

In June 2023, Senator Ali Ndume led a campaign to make Akpabio Senate President, according to NewsNow reports.
