Senator Abaribe's call for Buhari to resign is foolish, he ought to replace Nnamdi Kanu in prison – Presidency

The call of Senator Abaribe for President Buhari to resign over the nationwide insecurity has drawn a reaction from the Presidency. During the Wednesday, January 29 senate plenary, the Abia-born Senator expressed surprise at President Buhari’s recent acknowledgement of the rising insecurity in the country and called for his resignation, citing the failure to tackle the issue.

In response, the Presidency criticized the call for resignation, labeling it as “foolishness.” They further suggested that Senator Abaribe should have replaced Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), in a correctional facility. The statement also referred to Abaribe as an “arm chair critic” who failed to bring back Kanu for trial despite repeated deadlines.

The statement released on behalf of President Buhari by his media aide Garba Shehu emphasized that the Nigerian leader is dedicated to protecting Nigeria and its citizens from the harm unleashed by terrorists. The statement portrayed Abaribe as someone who should have taken the place of the suspects he failed to produce in the correctional facility.

The Presidency dismissed the call for President Buhari’s resignation, emphasizing that it does not represent the opinion of the country. They defended President Buhari’s efforts to address the security challenges and highlighted his ongoing work to protect Nigeria from the terrorists in the Sahel and Sub-Saharan Africa.
