Sen. Lado: N70,000 minimum wage showcases Tinubu’s support for Nigerian workers

In Abuja on Tuesday, Sen. Basheer Lado, the Special Adviser to the President on Senate Matters, expressed views that the enactment of the new minimum wage signals President Bola Tinubu’s empathy towards Nigerians.

Lado emphasized in a statement released to NewsNow that the prompt approval and endorsement of the minimum wage bill indicate President Tinubu’s adherence to his promises.

He highlighted that this action fulfilled a commitment to Nigerian workers and citizens alike, asserting that the people-centered governance model would progressively enhance the nation’s prosperity.

The aide reminded that Tinubu, during his campaign, pledged a decent wage for Nigerian workers, hence, the ratification of the bill reflects his commitment, also noting the positive shift from a five-year to a three-year review cycle for worker’s salaries.

He remarked, “This ensures that workers’ incomes will suffice for their needs throughout this administration.”

“The President merits the appreciation of all for his faithfulness to his pledge,” he added.

Lado also praised Nigerian workers for their endurance and contributions to national development over time, urging them to augment their dedication to delivering efficient services for the country’s advancement.

Additionally, he praised the Organised Labour Movement, under the stewardship of Comrade Joe Ajaero from the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Comrade Festus Osifo from the Trade Union Congress (TUC), for their diligent, mature, and peaceful negotiations that culminated in over a 100% wage increase from N30,000 to N70,000.

Lado equally lauded the swift passage of the Minimum Wage Bill by the National Assembly, spearheaded by Senate President Godswill Akpabio and House of Representatives Speaker Tajudeen Abass.
