Segun Sowunmi Advocates for a Total Overhaul of PDP National Chairmanship

In a recent statement, Segun Sowunmi, a former gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State, has emphasized the urgent need for a complete restructuring of the party to enhance its stability and competitiveness in future elections across the nation.

During a media briefing organized by the Ogun State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), the PDP leader expressed his concerns regarding the party’s consecutive losses in gubernatorial elections in Ogun State.

Sowunmi highlighted the necessity for the PDP to revamp its internal operational processes to ensure maximum efficiency and effectiveness. He also stressed the importance of revisiting the party’s fundamental principles and beliefs to reclaim its former prominence.

Furthermore, he acknowledged the PDP’s role as a robust opposition to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), providing viable alternative policies to the current administration.

Sowunmi also announced his intention to vie for the National Chairmanship position within the party.

It is worth noting that following the suspension of the former National Chairman of the party, Iyorchia Ayu, the North-Central caucus has been asserting its constitutional right to complete its full four-year term, set to conclude in October 2025.
