Security Threats from Foreign Nationals: Alarm Raised by Coalition in Katsina

In Katsina, the Coalition of Civil Society Groups, represented by Katsina Concerned Citizens for Good Governance (KCCGG), has expressed profound alarm regarding the escalating incidents involving foreign nationals that pose threats to the sovereignty and integrity of Nigeria.

Through a statement released by the group’s Chairman, Comrade Yakubu Muhammed, on Friday, grave concerns were articulated, particularly in relation to individuals who have been apprehended for engaging in activities that could jeopardize Nigeria’s well-being, as well as those who have shown disrespect by hoisting foreign flags, notably the Russian flag, while dishonoring the Nigerian flag.

The statement underscores that these behaviors directly challenge the peace, security, and core values of Nigeria, underscoring the necessity for a resolute reaction to preserve national honor and sovereignty.

“Hence, the KCCGG urges the Federal Government to: conduct thorough investigations into the activities of arrested foreign nationals, ensuring that if culpable, they face prosecution in appropriate courts as a demonstration of Nigeria’s unwavering stance against any form of disrespect or threat to its sovereignty,” the statement emphasized.

“Furthermore, there is a call for a reassessment and reinforcement of existing security protocols to avert similar incidents in the future, alongside vigilant oversight of the actions of foreign nationals and their governments, coupled with an enhanced security framework around critical national symbols and infrastructure,” the statement added.

The group also advocates for public awareness campaigns aimed at enlightening both citizens and foreigners on the importance of honoring Nigeria’s sovereignty.

“Additionally, there is a plea for the engagement of diplomatic missions in Nigeria, ensuring they fully grasp the gravity of such actions to forestall future transgressions,” it noted.

“While acknowledging the prevailing economic hardship in the country, the KCCGG implores the federal and state governments to review economic policies and alleviate the plight of the masses. Nevertheless, the persistent external interference compromising Nigeria’s sovereignty poses a significant threat to national security,” the statement highlighted.

It further emphasized that “the concerns raised by KCCGG underscore an immediate response needed from the Federal Government, given the continued manipulation of Nigeria’s political landscape by foreign entities for their own vested interests.”
