Search underway for Nasarawa elder taken by gunmen

The Police Command in Nasarawa State has initiated a search operation to secure the release of Musa Shuaibu, the Madakin of the Shabu community in Lafia Local Government Area, after he was abducted by an unidentified group of gunmen.

The incident occurred around 8 pm on Thursday when the assailants stormed the area and forcefully took him away to an undisclosed location.

A resident, who preferred not to be named, revealed that Shuaibu was taken shortly after attending the evening Muslim prayer (Isha’i) at a nearby mosque.

According to the source, “Reports suggest that he was snatched just a few steps from his home. The abductors were heavily armed and quickly vanished with him.”

“There are indications that the police are actively pursuing his rescue. Our hope is for his safe return to Shabu community, unharmed,” the source added.

“Madakin Shabu has always been known for his peaceful demeanor and generosity towards all regardless of ethnicity or faith. It’s distressing to see him in this situation.

“We urge the Nasarawa State authorities and security agencies to collaborate in ensuring his safe release.”

On Saturday, the State Police Public Relations Officer, Ramhan Nansel, confirmed the incident and stated that forces had been dispatched to the area to facilitate the elder’s freedom and apprehend the perpetrators.

“The kidnapping has been verified. We are actively pursuing the criminals and working towards his rescue,” assured Nansel.
