Points Killed As Recent Violence Unleashes In Taraba


No less than 50 individuals were reportedly slain while numerous residences were set ablaze in fresh communal clashes in Karim Lamido local government area of Taraba State yesterday, as stated by residents.

The police command in the state however expressed uncertainty about the casualty figure at press time yesterday due to the challenging landscape in the region which hindered access.

Police spokesman, Usman Abdullahi, mentioned that the conflict between Wurkuns and Karimjos initiated around 3 am yesterday as insurgent attacks.

Premium Times quoted him as stating; “In recent days, there have been sporadic insurgent attacks in some communities in the area whereby the Karimjos assault the Wurkuns, and the Wurkuns also retaliate, or the Wurkuns assault the Karimjos, and they also retaliate.”

Abdullahi conveyed that a united security team comprising military and police personnel were already in the region to restore order.

The most recent slaughters and devastation of property including residences, farmlands and domestic animals, occurred just a week after the state governor, Agbu Kefas, convened with traditional rulers and heads of security agencies on the necessity of fostering peace.
