Sanwo-Olu pledges to tackle Lagos housing deficit

Heading the article, Lagos Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, vows to address the housing shortage in the state. Sanwo-Olu declared this during the introduction of Greenwich Gardens, a project comprising 101 housing units in Ajelogo. These units include 66 two-bedroom flats, 20 three-bedroom terraces, 14 three-bedroom semi-detached houses, and one four-bedroom detached house. Additionally, there are 65 residential plots available as part of a sites and services scheme.

At the estate unveiling, Sanwo-Olu urged developers and private organizations to collaborate with the government in providing more affordable housing to reduce the housing deficit. He affirmed his administration’s dedication to completing ongoing housing projects and increasing the number of completed housing schemes, now at 19, which offer decent housing for state residents.

The Governor emphasized the adoption of a global housing policy allowing people to become homeowners through an inclusive financing system based on income. He also encouraged private investors to participate in bridging the housing gap in the state, recognizing the potential in the Lagos housing market due to the growing population.

Regarding the Greenwich Gardens Housing Estate, Sanwo-Olu asserted its contribution to providing decent homes for Lagosians. He also praised the initiation and completion of the housing estate by Mayor Dele Oshinowo-led administration and highlighted its economic impact on the community.

Oshinowo, Chairman of Agboyi-Ketu LCDA, emphasized the project’s significance as an exemplar of grassroots development and the first local government housing project in Nigeria to be carried out through the Public Private Partnership initiative. He also stated the project’s alignment with the T.H.E.M.E.S.+ agenda of the Lagos State Government, serving to address housing deficits and improve community well-being.

In conclusion, Sanwo-Olu commended Oshinowo and the entire council leadership for their efforts and urged other council chairmen in the state to focus on housing projects in their respective areas.
