Sanwo-Olu Emphasizes Professionalism as Key Solution to Building Collapses

The significance of professionalism and adherence to building regulations in tackling building collapses in Lagos State was once again underscored by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

Speaking at the second edition of the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) stakeholders engagement held in Lagos, Sanwo-Olu highlighted the crucial role of professionalism in the built environment.

Themed “Professionalism Across Board in the Built Environment,” the LASBCA stakeholders engagement concentrated on the pressing issue of building collapses in Lagos State.

Sanwo-Olu, representing Lagos State, emphasized the necessity of professionalism in the built environment, especially with the rapid population growth exerting pressure on existing infrastructural facilities in urban areas.

Addressing the challenge of citizens’ non-compliance with building codes, which often leads to a blatant disregard for building regulations by homeowners and developers, the governor said, “Our government is confronted with the task of ensuring strict adherence to building standards.”

Mr. Gbolahan Oki, the General Manager of LASBCA, stressed the importance of collaboration in enhancing the built environment in Lagos State and highlighted the agency’s success in reducing building collapses through its initiatives.

Oki mentioned the implementation of the Certified Accreditors Programme by the government to engage professionals in the approval and inspection processes, further regulating the construction industry.

Reiterating the agency’s dedication to maintaining high standards, safety, and innovation in the built environment, Oki affirmed LASBCA’s commitment to upholding excellence in the sector.
