Sandro Tonali cleared to make comeback for Newcastle

Newcastle has officially announced that Sandro Tonali has been given the green light to rejoin the team for the upcoming season starting August 28, 2024, as disclosed in a statement tweeted by Fabrizio Romano on Thursday.

The confirmation from the Federazione Italiana Giuoco Calcio states that Tonali’s suspension will conclude on August 27, paving the way for his return to play from August 28 onward.

His exact return date remains uncertain as Newcastle is slated to play a Carabao Cup second-round fixture against Nottingham Forest that week, which could be scheduled for either Tuesday or Wednesday evening.

If the game falls on Tuesday, Tonali will be unable to participate, but he will be eligible if the match is set for Wednesday.

The first Premier League game for Tonali after his return will be against Tottenham Hotspur at St James’ Park on September 1.

It’s worth recalling that Tonali has been sidelined from football since October 2023 but has been training with Newcastle’s first team during this period.

He will miss the initial two Premier League matches against Southampton and AFC Bournemouth before becoming eligible to return to action against Spurs.
