Enhancing Community Security: Training for Information Management

In a bid to address local security issues, the Commander of Nigeria’s National Safe Schools Response Coordination Centre in the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Hammed Abodunrin, has unveiled plans to provide hunters and vigilantes with essential information management skills.

Sharing this initiative with NewsNow on Thursday, Abodunrin stressed the importance of swift responses to security challenges at the grassroots level.

Halima Iliya, the National Coordinator of the Financing Safe Schools Initiative, previously mentioned the intention to engage hunters and vigilantes in gathering intelligence to combat school attacks across the country.

“As part of our approach, we aim to train hunters, vigilantes, and volunteers in regions with existing local vigilante groups. In areas without established vigilantes, we plan to involve young people,” Iliya explained.

Abodunrin reiterated the importance of providing specialized information management training to these individuals to enable seamless coordination with security agencies.

“For years, communities have relied on hunters and vigilantes who are constantly in the field, interacting with various groups unknowingly. These stakeholders are encouraged to contribute by providing valuable information.

“The training will focus on effective information sharing, security awareness, and reporting procedures. The goal is to reinforce the message of ‘if you see something, say something,’” he emphasized.
