The appeal filed by Senator Dino Melaye contesting the victory of Senator Smart Adeyemi in the Kogi West Senatorial District election on November 16, 2019, has been dismissed by the Court of Appeal in Abuja.
The panel has upheld the judgment delivered on June 10, 2020, by the National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal in Abuja, which affirmed the declaration of Adeyemi as the winner of the election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
In addition, the appellate court, while striking out Adeyemi’s preliminary objection, has awarded N50,000 in favor of the respondents and against Melaye as costs.
