In a surprising revelation, veteran Nollywood star Rita Dominic discloses the reason behind her hiatus from the acting scene.
The acclaimed actress explained that back in 2002, she made a conscious choice to distance herself from the spotlight and relocated to the United Kingdom due to personal challenges she was facing.
During her time in the UK, Rita took on a new role as a caregiver for adults with special needs.
Speaking at the 2024 Women of Valour Conference held in Accra, Ghana, Dominic opened up about how she found purpose and fulfillment in caring for others, despite any perceptions that it might be considered a downgrade from her former celebrity status.
She shared, “In 2001/2002, I took a break from acting. I stepped away from the [movie] industry and moved to London as it was a particularly difficult phase in my life. I experienced a falling out with close friends who I had regarded as family. This led me to put a pause on my acting career. I needed a change of environment.”
“Upon relocating to London, I decided to leave fame behind. Surprisingly, I have never disclosed this before. While in London, I was striving to make ends meet, which led me to work in a care facility, providing assistance to adults with special needs. Some may view this as a downward shift, but I beg to differ. The opportunity to care for others brought me immense joy and purpose during a challenging period in my life.”
