Reynhard Sinaga, a 36-year-old student from Indonesia, has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the extensive sexual assault of at least 48 men whom he drugged and filmed in Manchester.
Reportedly, Sinaga abused approximately 195 men over two-and-a-half years by luring them to his flat under false pretenses, drugging them, and subsequently assaulting them while unconscious.
Described by Ian Rushton, the north-west deputy chief crown prosecutor, as the “most prolific rapist in British legal history,” Sinaga committed 159 offenses, including 136 rapes, many of which were recorded on his mobile phones. Authorities are yet to identify at least 70 of his victims.
Sinaga was sentenced on January 6, 2020, to life imprisonment and must serve a minimum of 30 years before being eligible for parole.
Prior to this ruling, Sinaga was already serving 88 concurrent life sentences with a minimum of 20 years before parole consideration following his previous two trials involving 25 victims. The recent trial, relating to 23 additional victims, resulted in his latest sentence.
His claim that the victims were participating voluntarily in a sex game by pretending to be unconscious was dismissed as “ludicrous” by the court, with the defense being unanimously rejected by the trial juries.
According to prosecutors, Sinaga would target mostly heterosexual young men outside clubs late at night, preying on those who had been ejected by bouncers or were separated from their friends or partners.
It was also revealed that Sinaga had bragged to a friend about a victim’s transition from being straight to exploring the gay world.
Judge Suzanne Goddard QC stated that the total number of potential victims of Sinaga’s assaults was 195, labeling him as an “evil serial sexual predator” who preyed on unsuspecting young men simply looking for a night out.
Sentencing Sinaga, she affirmed, ‘You are an evil serial sexual predator who has preyed upon young men who came into the city centre wanting nothing more than a good night-out with their friends. One of your victims described you as a monster. The scale and enormity of your offending confirms this as an accurate description.’
