Revocation of James Ibori’s property certificate of occupancy by Edo state governor, Godwin Obaseki

Echoes reverberate as Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo state takes the controversial decision to revoke the statutory right of occupancy of a property owned by the former governor of Delta State, James Ibori. The property is situated on plot 103A Aiguobasimwin Crescent, old GRA, Oredo Local Government Area.

Mr. Obaseki, signing the revocation order, cited sections (28) 1 and 38 of the Land Use Degree of 1978 and all other pertinent laws, as the basis for the decision.

Despite the move, no explicit motive was disclosed for the revocation.

Responding to inquiries made by The Nation, Ibori affirmed that he had been informed about the revocation three months ago by the governor.
